Born in Tokyo in 1963, Yamamoto Shinzan was seven when he began his pupilage with his father, Yamamoto Hōzan - the famed Shakuhachi player who was recognized as a ‘National Living Treasure’ by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Japan in 2002. Since 1985, Yamamoto Shinzan, now an accomplished Shakuhachi player himself, has performed in Korea, the North, Central and South America regions, Europe and various other countries. He was also a graduate of the Faculty of Letters (majoring in French Literature) from Chuo University, Japan.
